The short answer
You can ask to travel with your own child car seat, subject to assessment and written acceptance. Send its exact model, required base and intended orientation, your child's age, height and weight, and the full passenger and luggage list. Check the seat and vehicle manuals for the proposed installation and seating position. Agree who will fit it and reconfirm the return; a generic vehicle category does not establish compatibility.
Identify the seat you intend to bring
Give the manufacturer and full model, not simply ‘baby seat’. Include the child's age, height and weight with units, the intended rear-facing or forward-facing use as permitted by that model, and whether a separate base or other required parts are coming. Use the manufacturer's limits and instructions rather than choosing by age alone. Have the correct manual available offline and resolve uncertainties with the manufacturer before travel. Bringing your own equipment and requesting a provider-supplied seat are different arrangements; neither should be inferred from an ordinary passenger count or a form note.
Check the actual vehicle and seating position
Ask the provider for the vehicle and seating-position details needed to check compatibility. The child's seat manual and the vehicle manual must support the installation you intend to use. Check any required belt, lower-anchor, top-tether or support-leg conditions for that model; do not assume ISOFIX and LATCH labels establish an interchangeable setup. A van or VIP SUV category does not confirm the anchors, usable seating positions or fit. Manufacturer guidance and the vehicle's actual equipment determine the answer. A general article cannot approve a particular installation or establish which foreign seat approvals satisfy applicable local requirements.
Can I use an infant seat without its base?
Only if the instructions for that exact model permit the proposed installation and the vehicle supports it. Some arrangements require a base. Do not substitute a generic belt method, omit a required part or assume that another family's seat instructions apply to yours.
Does ISOFIX or LATCH availability mean my seat fits?
No. Confirm the actual seat, vehicle, permitted position and all model-specific requirements. The presence of an anchor alone does not settle compatibility. Do not combine or substitute installation methods unless the relevant manufacturers' instructions expressly permit the arrangement.
Assess seats, passengers and luggage together
Count every adult, child and infant, each child seat in use, all suitcases, cabin bags and the stroller with its folded dimensions. Declare a separate base or spare seat even if it will travel as luggage. Ask for the whole seating and load arrangement rather than assuming the advertised passenger capacity guarantees space beside an installed child seat. Two child seats and several large bags can change which arrangement is feasible. Do not promise three seats across a row or remove a required seat component to make room. Any vehicle or load change needs reassessment before the journey is accepted.
Agree on fitting and a vehicle-change plan
Before accepting the booking, establish who will install the seat, what assistance is available and how the fitting process will fit the agreed pickup arrangements. Do not assume the driver is a trained child-seat installer. Follow the seat and vehicle instructions; ask the manufacturer or a qualified child-passenger-safety professional to resolve technical questions. At CUN, collect the seat and all required parts before following your own confirmed meeting instructions. If the vehicle changes or the seat cannot be installed as instructed, do not start the ride with an improvised arrangement. Contact the provider and agree on a suitable alternative before departure.
What if my seat is delayed, damaged or will not fit?
Tell the provider before boarding and resolve the plan. Ask the manufacturer about suspected damage and the provider about an appropriately assessed alternative. A replacement seat, changed vehicle or later pickup is not automatically available or free. Airline baggage acceptance does not confirm road compatibility, and a transport confirmation is not an installation inspection.
Confirm the return as a separate arrangement
An arrival booking does not guarantee the same vehicle, seating position or equipment on the return. Reconfirm the seat model, passenger list, luggage and hotel pickup for each accepted leg, allowing separately for fitting before departure. Keep local pickup dates clear and work backwards from the airline's airport-arrival requirement. Ask for the complete fare and any agreed waiting, fitting-time or change terms; bringing your own seat establishes neither a discount nor a charge. This is a planning checklist, not a vehicle or installation guarantee. The January 2027 service-start notice remains applicable; availability and each journey need written acceptance.
Three arrangements to assess
| Your situation | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Your own infant seat and base | Check the exact model, required parts, permitted orientation and proposed seating position. |
| Two children, stroller and suitcases | Assess the complete seating and luggage arrangement together, not only the passenger total. |
| A different return vehicle | Recheck compatibility and fitting arrangements for that journey before relying on it. |
