The short answer
Report the missing checked bag through your airline's current process before leaving the airport, and notify the contact on your transfer confirmation promptly. Keep the baggage case reference and agree on your next pickup step. Airline follow-up, baggage delivery and the road transfer are separate arrangements; neither unlimited waiting nor later collection is assumed.
Start the airline's baggage-reporting process
Check the flight's baggage information and ask the airline's baggage staff how to report a checked bag that has not appeared. Keep your boarding pass, baggage receipt and identification available; follow the requirements for your actual airline and itinerary. A missing checked bag, an item left on the aircraft and property misplaced in the terminal need different reporting routes. Do not assume a general lost-property enquiry replaces the airline report.
Which reference should I keep?
Retain the baggage report or case reference and its follow-up instructions alongside the baggage tag and flight details. These are not necessarily the same as your airline booking code or transfer reference. Ask the airline to confirm that the report has been recorded; a tracker location alone is not a report.
Tell your transfer contact while you deal with the report
Send the booking name, flight, local date, terminal and a short status update to the contact in your confirmation. Say you are still reporting missing baggage and are not ready at the meeting point. Ask how the accepted waiting allowance and any changed pickup apply. A flight tracker showing that you landed does not tell the dispatcher this. Do not abandon reporting just to meet an assumed waiting deadline.
Confirm the next step before heading to the vehicle
Ask the airline what you must complete before leaving, how to follow the case and whether later delivery or personal collection needs arranging. Once the required steps are complete, update the transfer contact and obtain the next meeting instructions. Do not assume you must wait for another aircraft or that a vehicle will remain indefinitely. A later pickup, different vehicle, changed route or additional fare needs explicit acceptance.
Give the correct destination and an agreed recipient
Supply the airline with the actual accommodation address, reachable number and stay dates, and ask what delivery or collection is available. Cancún Hotel Zone, Playa/Costa Mujeres, Playa del Carmen and Tulum are different destinations. Ask hotel reception or the villa host whether someone may receive a bag, at which entrance and during which hours. For Isla Mujeres, Cozumel or Holbox, verify island arrangements separately: the airport road transfer ends at a mainland ferry connection. Reassess any ferry plan after the delay.
What if I change hotels before the bag arrives?
Tell the airline through its accepted case-update channel and ask it to confirm the new delivery details. Give dates for each address and reconfirm the recipient. Updating your transfer booking does not update the baggage case, and a hotel change does not guarantee rerouting of a delivery already in progress.
Keep later collection separate from your airport booking
If you are asked to collect the bag later, establish the airline's location, hours, documents and any authorization requirements first. Then assess an independently accepted journey; your original passenger transfer does not establish a baggage-only collection service. Do not assume the driver can enter a restricted area or sign on your behalf. Save airline and transport contacts separately. This guide promises no recovery time, reimbursement, delivery coverage or baggage-handling service.
Does my transfer include later baggage collection?
No such inclusion should be assumed. Ask the booking contact about any proposed extra journey, availability, authorization and full fare. A form note is a request, not acceptance. For an existing booking, use your confirmation contact rather than submitting a duplicate airport reservation.
What stage are you at?
| Your situation | Next step to confirm |
|---|---|
| You are still reporting the bag | Notify the transfer contact now and clarify waiting; do not report ready for collection. |
| Reporting is complete and the next steps are agreed | Confirm the vehicle meeting instructions and retain the airline case details. |
| Delivery or later collection is unresolved | Clarify airline and accommodation arrangements separately; do not assume driver collection. |
